NEW DELHI, Oct 6: Pakistan hockey vice-captain Mudassir Ali Khan on Thursday said he was planning to retire after next year’s Doha Asia Games to concentrate on playing leagues.
“We have had a good outing at Rabo Trophy in August. My plan is to do well in upcoming tournaments like Champions Trophy, Commonwealth Games in March and Asian Games after which I would like to retire from international hockey and concentrate on leagues,” he said.
Mudassir said after Ramazan Pakistan team would have a preparatory camp for Champions Trophy to be organized in December.
“It is going to be a tough season for us and we would like to do well and stay injury free.”
Mudassir, who is here to take part in the 16th Lal Bahadur Shastri tournament along with two other Pakistanis, is one man the opposition always marks. His skills and swiftness has found defence of many international teams wanting.
Asked about Super Hockey League (SHL) in Pakistan, he said his team Capital Dynamos played well in few matches but end result was “not good for us as we finished fifth in the tournament.”
“It is a new concept in Pakistan and if marketed properly will be popular just as Indian Premier Hockey League (PHL). The similarities are very few but differences many.”—PPI
