ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: Commuters of the twin cities had to face a lot of problems on the first day of Ramazan on Thursday because most of the public transport vehicles were booked for election duty.

A large number of people had to wait at different bus terminals for public transport. Most of the commuters could not join their families for Iftar while many had to hire taxis.

The commuters’ worries were further aggravated when only those who had to travel a short distance were allowed to board the vehicle.

“The passengers who had to go to Rehmanabad from Melody were not allowed to board while those whose destination was Zero Point were permitted to sit because they were more economical for them,” said a commuter named Arshad who was not allowed to board the vehicle from Aabpara as his destination was Shamsabad.

A government official, standing among the crowd, criticized the holding of local government elections in the month of Ramazan, saying that the polls should have been held before Ramazan.

The traffic situation worsened in the evening when people were returning home after buying eatables for Iftar.

“I cannot join my family for Iftar due to the rush on buses therefore I must hire a taxi,” a commuter complained.
