LAHORE, Oct 5: Pakistan vice-captain Younis Khan and dashing all-rounder Shahid Afridi have been promoted to the top category, according to the new central contracts announced by the PCB on Wednesday.
Younis and Afridi, who were in ‘B’ category, have joined Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq, Mohammad Yousuf
(ex-Yousuf Youhana), fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who are among the highest paid national players.
Meanwhile, Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal also moved up from ‘C’ to ‘B’ category in the new contracts signed by available cricketers for the next term of one year.
The one-year term, starting from July 1, 2005, will end on June 30 next year.
Besides, 20 senior players, 13 other cricketers of the junior and ‘A’ teams have also been given special central contracts by the PCB.
The delay in signing of the contracts, which were announced a couple of months ago, was because the PCB wanted to remove some flaws in the agreements relating to marketing aspects.
Central contracted players:
Category ‘A’: Inzamamul Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi.
Category ‘B’: Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Malik, Danish Kaneria, Kamran Akmal.
