Youngsters lose


NEW DELHI, Oct 5: India Dark Blues managed to beat Pakistani club Youngsters 4-1 on Wednesday in 16th Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament at Shivaji Stadium. Indian side comprising ten members, including goalkeeper, who feature in national team, had seven chances to score but faltered at the finish.

Viren Rasquinha, India Dark Blues captain admitted the team needs to work on this aspect.

This is a problem which is not restricted alone to Blues side but also the national team.

As Rajinder Singh, national coach admitted. “It was a nice win but in the camp we will have after the tournament and before Champions Trophy we will have to work on this aspect.”

Indian side was off to a flying start when Prabhdeep Singh converted a penalty corner in 4th minute and remained that way till the end of half.

After break, Prabhjot Singh rediscovered his form to score a hat trick.

Kashif Ali was lone goal scorer for visiting team when he converted a penalty corner in 42nd minute.

Mudassir Ali Khan, captain of Youngsters said team’s defence and not executing plans cost the match. He said technique was also found wanting as plans which they decided on were not executed at all.—PPI
