QUETTA, Oct 5: The Balochistan chapter of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has decided to support the PML-backed candidates for the posts of nazim of the city and two towns in the local body polls on Thursday.
Accompanied by the contesting candidates, MQM provincial organizer Waqar Ahmed Baloch said at a news conference at the press club on Wednesday that the Haq Parast panel had taken part in the first and second phases of the polls in the province and won seats.
He said that the party had fielded the candidates for the posts of nazim of the city, and Zarghoon and Chiltan towns but the provincial body in consultation with the MQM high command decided to withdraw its candidates in favour of the PML.
He claimed that the decision had been taken to strengthen ties with coalition partners at the centre and in Sindh and the Haq Parast panel would now back Mohammad Rahim Kakar for the post of city nazim, Dr Aziz Qureshi for Zarghoon town and Mir Ismail for Chiltan town.
Answering a question, he said that 22 councillors of his party had been elected in the city and towns. A similar number of independent councillors would also vote for PML nominees, he added.
