KARACHI, Oct 5: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the AG Sindh for Oct 11 on a petition challenging detention of an Imam of a mosque under anti-terrorism law.
Ms Bakht Sardar challenged the detention of her spouse Mualana Mohammad Ali, who is Khateeb and Imam of Jaima Baitul Mukaram, Sherpao colony, Landhi, under section 11-EEE of anti terrorism act. The home department ordered detention of detenue on his alleged affiliation with the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan.
The petitioner denied the allegations against her spouse and submitted that he had nothing to do with the banned organization. She said her family had been suffering financially due to prolonged detention of her spouse.
SHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, after preliminary hearing issued notice to AG for Oct 11.
Meanwhile, the same court disposed of petition filed by custom official against harassment after assurance by the NAB counsel that no harassment shall be caused to the petitioner.
Javed Iqbal Mirza submitted that he was being subjected to harassment by NAB and time and again he was called by the respondents for inquiry.—PPI
