KARACHI, Oct 5: Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Local Bodies Waseem Akhtar on Wednesday asked the city government to take stern action against profiteers and hoarders in order to provide relief to citizens in the holy month of Ramazan.

Speaking at a meeting held in his office, he said that the city government officers who were granted magisterial powers should conduct raids on shops to check prices and take stern action against the shopkeepers who would not display price-list in their shops.

Mr Akhtar noted that powers of first class magistrate had been delegated to more than 65 CDGK officers, including DDOs (Revenue, law and enterprises), TMOs and Mukhtiarkars, to enable them to control prices during the holy month.

He said that in the presence of these officers, logically there should be no complaints of overcharging. If there was any, it would mean that these officers were not discharging their duties properly. The adviser was told that the city government had finalized arrangements in this regard.—PPI
