ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: A military court on Tuesday awarded death sentence to four Pakistan Air Force (PAF) employees for their involvement in an assassination attempt on President Gen Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi on Dec 14, 2003.
According to the PAF, two other junior ranking employees of the PAF have also been awarded life imprisonment in the same case. When contacted, a senior official of the PAF did not give the names of the convicts.
According to a PAF press release, the case was being tried by a Court Martial of PAF for the last six months and the proceedings of the case concluded on Oct 3.
The convicts have a right to appeal according to the provision of the PAF Act.
A civilian identified as Mushtaq who was also involved in the same assassination attempt, had been tried by the court martial and sentenced to death.
The President was attacked on his way to the camp office in Rawalpindi. A bridge near Jhanda Chichi was blown up when his motorcade had just crossed it.
Just 11 days later a suicide attempt was made on the life of president in the same place in which 16 people were killed including two suicide attackers.
