PESHAWAR, Oct 4: Friday and Sunday bazaars will be held at town and tehsil level in the NWFP to ensure availability of food items at cheap rates, it was decided in a meeting presided over by the chief secretary on Tuesday.

The chief secretary directed the authorities concerned to constitute teams consisting of members from the district administrations, the food department and police to check the prices in the market.

The teams whose performance remained exemplary would be awarded honorarium, it was decided.

The chief secretary also directed the quarters concerned to convene meetings of price review committees to fix reasonable rates of essential commodities acceptable to all the stakeholders.

Earlier, the NWFP food secretary informed the meeting that there was no shortage of edible items in the market and flour was available at a cheaper rate than the past.

He termed baseless press reports regarding possible crises due to stoppage of supply of wheat quota to flourmills.
