GUJRANWALA, Oct 4: A convention of brick kiln workers has expressed concern over exploitation by owners and urged the government to get implemented the Kiln Workers Wage Ordinance 2002.

Speaking at the convention here on Tuesday, Kiln Welfare Organization Central President Chaudhry Mushtaq alleged that some owners had illegally confined family members of some workers at their workplaces and were not paying them wages regularly.

Organization representatives from Mandi Bahauddin, Sakhi Muhammad, Sanghara Masih of Sheikhupura, Shaukat of Faisalabad, Muhammad Husain Khokhar of Multan and Ashraf of Lahore pointed out that kiln owners were selling 1,000 quality bricks for Rs5,000, general type bricks for Rs3,500 and earning huge profit than that of their expenditure.

But they were not paying their workers according to the law.

They urged the Punjab government to take action against the kiln owners.
