KARACHI: Arrangements for 3rd phase of local body elections


KARACHI, Oct 4: The obtaining law and order situation and arrangements for the third-phase local body elections came under review at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Tuesday.

In the meeting, it was decided that there would be restriction on carrying and exhibiting weapons throughout the province while section 144 CrPC would be in force for one month.

The governor directed the authorities to take all possible steps to ensure peaceful conduct of elections and enforcement of the code of conduct of the Election Commission.

It was pointed out that as per the code of conduct, carrying of mobile telephones inside the polling stations would not be allowed.

The meeting was told that no unauthorized person could enter the limits of polling stations as prescribed by the Election Commission.

Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan asked the officials to keep a strict watch on anti-social elements on the occasion and effective measures be taken for ensuring the safety of life and property of people throughout the province.

He also issued instructions for greater coordination between intelligence agencies and keeping them alert all the time. He said he hoped that people too would cooperate on the occasion, particularly during snap checkings etc.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi, Information Adviser Salahud-din Hyder, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Home Secretary Brig Muhtaramm, IG Asad Jehangir and DCO Fazlur Rehman. — APP
