LUXEMBOURG, Oct 4: The European Union has adopted an arms embargo against Uzbekistan on account of Tashkent’s refusal to accept an independent probe into a massacre last May.
The measure imposes an “embargo on exports to Uzbekistan of arms, military equipment and other equipment that might be used for internal repression”, according to conclusions adopted by EU foreign ministers.
The ministers also agreed to refuse entry to “those individuals responsible for the indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force in Andijan”.—AFP
