Pakistan, Romania sign protocol: Economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: Pakistan and Romania have signed a protocol of Joint Government Commission of Economic, Technical, and Scientific Cooperation to further strengthen relations and boost bilateral trade.
The protocol was signed at the conclusion of the two-day 18th Pak-Romania Joint Government Commission here on Tuesday. Lonel Mantog, Secretary of State Minister of Economy and Commerce, led the Romanian delegation while the Pakistan side was represented by Secretary Economic Affairs Khalid Saeed. Minister of State for Economic Affairs Division Ms. Hinna Rabbani Khar was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, Pakistan offered to supply food products, processed horticulture product, textile and garments, rice, finished leather products and footwear, pharmaceutical and railway rolling stock.
Romanian side offered to supply equipment for cement plant and refinery, CKD tractors, truck, lorries and city cars, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment, chemicals and petrochemicals, metrological products, soda ash and oilseeds.
Both countries agreed to explore the possibility of investment and industrial cooperation/joint venture in SME sector, mining sector, oil sector and manufacturing sector.
Romania particularly invited Pakistani companies to invest in Romania in textile, leather industry, food processing industry and any other sector of the economy.
It was agreed to exchange views regarding modalities for formulating funding and undertaking joint research and development projects. It was also agreed that the two countries would cooperate in the field of information technology by establishing joint ventures and exchange of visit of IT experts of private business community.
The Romanian side showed interest in providing equipment and expertise for refineries modernization and expansion, desalinization, and power generation projects.
