Kalabagh dam rejected

HYDERABAD, Oct 2: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Junejo group) held a demonstration here on Sunday in protest against construction of Kalabagh dam.

They observed a token hunger strike against proposed construction of Kalabagh dam, rehabilitation of outsiders in Sindh and issuing of NICs to aliens.

They carried banners and placards and raised slogans against controversial water projects and settlement of foreigners.

Party leaders Hyder Bhutto, Wahid Viko and Shams Shoro said the construction of Kalabagh dam had been rejected by provincial assemblies but Gen Musharraf was adamant to go ahead with the project even before publication of the technical committee’s report.

They said the Indus River was property of Sindh and the rulers have no right to close the river.

They said it was tantamount to fighting against the nature.

About rehabilitation of outsiders in Sindh, the JSM leaders said it was an attempt to convert the Sindhis into a minority.

They said while foreigners were being issued NICs, the Sindhis were being denied NICs on one or the other pretext.

HUNGER STRIKE: Office-bearers and members of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat from Tando Allahyar observed a token hunger strike outside the press club on Sunday against transfer of the Watayo Faqir library, Tando Allahyar, to the social welfare department.

The protesters were led by the central secretary general, Taj Joyo, and the district coordination secretary, Maula Bux Kaka.

They told reporters that the welfare department had occupied two rooms of the library and banned entrance of the readers in the library.
