KARACHI, Oct 2: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has called for strict compliance of building rules by builders of high-rises in Karachi, and said that proper NOC and necessary permission must be obtained and building plans got approved from the departments concerned.
Speaking at a meeting held at the CM’s House to review the construction of high-rises in the city, Dr Arbab observed that there had been rapid increase in the construction of high-rise and multi-storeyed buildings but all relevant rules were not being complied with in many cases.
The new buildings, he pointed out, lacked proper facilities of drinking water and sewerage system due to which occupants of such buildings faced problems.
“Building control laws should be implemented and followed strictly throughout the province, particularly in Karachi where proper sewerage system in new buildings must be ensured.”
The chief minister directed participants of the meeting that in view of the growing civic problems caused by the increasing population, construction of housing schemes out of the city be encouraged. In this context, he suggested areas like those near the Northern Bypass, Nooriabad, Gharo, etc. He said the schemes would help solve the housing problems being faced by common man.
Chief Minister ordered strict implementation of the restrictions on high-rise buildings around the Quaid’s mausoleum and other specified areas.
He said that the construction work initiated near the CM’s House and Sheraton Hotel without an NOC or approved plan was highly objectionable. He directed the authorities concerned to ensure that all formalities were followed in such cases.
