LAHORE, Oct 1: Muhammad Munir posted another impressive card of 667 to maintain his top position on the second day of the Punjab Open golf championship at the Lahore Gymkhana course with an aggregate of 135 on Saturday.

Munir was joint leader with Lambah Masih on the first day. But Lambah played sluggishly on Saturday and went down tamely.

Munir has produced a game of excellence and played like a true champion amid prominent golfers Shabbir Iqbal, Imdad Hussain and others.

Three strokes behind, was Muhammad Siddique of Faisalabad. Siddique is a seasoned golfer but not a winner.

In the last season, he did not manage a single big victory and after a long time he will be a part of the final flight in such a prestigious competition.

Two more professionals playing fairly well are Irfan Mehmood (139) of Rawalpindi and Taj Nabi of Karachi (141).

At 142 four players are bracketed and they are Imdad Hussain, Mohsin Afzal (Gym), Y. Habib (Gym) and Javed Inayat (HBL).

The match for the senior professional (above 50 years of age) concluded after 36 holes.

Iftikhar Ahmed won the title with rounds of 73 and 71 and an aggregate 144.

Akbar Ali, who as a youngster has won the Punjab Open title six times, came second with a score of 145. Shaukat Ali remained third.

In the amateur section, the leader is still Imran Ahmad. With rounds of 72 and 75 he is leading with aggregate 147. At 151, Waseem Rana is at third position. At 152, Shoaib Bukhari was the fourth.
