BRIDGE: Elixir drub Four Bidders Club

KARACHI, Oct 1: Elixir outplayed Four Bidders Club 25-5 in the Karachi Gymkhana Gold Cup at KG bridge hall on Friday. Twenty-two teams are in the run for the title with holders Havoc conveniently perched at the top, who made a good start with an impressive 21-9 success over EFU.

In the first round, Giants easily defeated Fine Foods 19-11, Abedies outpaced Karachi Gymkhana Red, Four Bidders dominated Jams and Hopefuls edged Dada.

Candyland clinched a narrow win over Data Steel 16-14, Adventurer beat Chandna 19-11 and Mahmood-IV played a draw with Allana.

Hopefuls made up of Ali Adamjee, Naval Ghareeb, S Rashid and M Azim seem determined to upset the applecart. The team proved their mettle when they outplayed more experienced Four Bidders 25-4 in the second round.

Havoc with M A Ansari, Imran Jaka, Tehsin Gheewala, Mirza Shauq Hussain and Kamran Ebrahim in their fold pitched up against out-of-form Giants to add 21-9 to their score.

Candyland could not make a major breakthrough even after winning both matches. On the other hand Adventurer put up a better show defeating Aggressive 25-3. S M Ozair, Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed, Anwer Kemal, Raza Naqvi and Anwer Gheewala played for Adventurers.

Elixir kept up their winning form when they beat Abedies 16-14.

Allana made amends in the second round to win 25-3 from Crescent. Mahmood-IV won second round match 21-9 from KG Green. KG Red defeated Four Bidders Club 17-13 and Jams registered a 20-10 win over Dada.
