GOLF: Huston snatches one-shot lead


GREENSBORO (North Carolina), Oct 1: American John Huston returned an error-free six-under-par 66 to grab a one-shot lead over South Korea’s K.J. Choi after the second round of the Greensboro Classic on Friday.

Huston, who began the day at Forest Oaks Country Club four behind overnight leader Charles Warren, has carded only one bogey on his way to a 12-under total of 132.

Choi mixed four birdies with one bogey in a 69 for 133.

Britain’s Justin Rose tied the day’s best round, a seven-under 65 putting him joint third on 10-under 134 with American D.J. Trahan.

South African Tim Clark, 2003 champion Shigeki Maruyama of Japan and Americans John Rollins and Brian Gay were on 135.

CARNOUSTIE (Scotland): Colin Montgomerie took a huge step towards winning his eighth European order of merit when he mastered windy conditions at St Andrews on Friday to take a one-stroke lead in the Dunhill Links Championship.

Montgomerie’s first return to the Old Course where he finished second behind Tiger Woods in the July British Open, proved a triumphant one.

The 42-year-old Scot fashioned a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 in the second round to surge to nine-under-par 135.
