HYDERABAD, Oct 1: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman has stressed the need for quality education to make the country more prosperous.
He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the 14th All-Pakistan English Declamation Contest held at the Cadet College, Petaro, on Saturday.
The chief Secretary said education was the only tool to put the country on development track.
He said educational institutions like the Petaro Cadet College were playing a vital role for imparting quality education to students.
He said it was responsibility of all educational institutions to work with missionary spirit to provide competitive leadership in each field of endeavour.
He announced Rs10 million as grant to the Petaro Cadet College to meet its academic requirements.
College Principal M. Abid Saleem said the Petaro Cadet College was focusing on qualitative education and character building of the students.
He said the college had secured all top positions in both examinations of the SSC part-II and HSC part-II 2005 in the BISE Hyderabad.
He said that this year as many as 31 cadets had been selected for armed forces as commissioned officers.
He said cadets of the college were regularly contesting in other co-curriculum activities and got many trophies.
He said the academic standard of the college would be maintained in future also.
The chief secretary gave away trophies and prizes to winners and runner ups of the contest.
The champions’ trophy went to the Government College University, Lahore, and the runner-up trophy was bagged by the Karachi Grammar School.
According to individual positions, Sameer Ahmed of the Government College University, Lahore, stood first, Cadet Tipu Sultan of the Pakistan Naval Academy, Karachi, second, Rana Abdul Aziz of the Government College University, Lahore, and Cadet Mohammad Haziquddin of the Pakistan Steel Cadet College, Karachi, shared the third position while AVN cadet Waqar Sarwar of the Pakistan Air Force Academy, Risalpur, Basil Arij Khan of the Karachi Grammar School, Maham Nisar of the Bahria College, Karachi, and Amara Sultan of the Hayat Girls School, Hyderabad, got consolation prizes.
