PESHAWAR, Oct 1: A girl student has filed a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court against a private medical college, requesting the court to direct the University of Peshawar to withdraw affiliation to the said college as this institution has not been recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental College till date.

The petitioner, Nayyab Gohar, has claimed that the college had been defrauding people on the basis of its affiliation with the University of Peshawar.

The petitioner further requested the high court to direct the provincial government to close all such institutions which were openly cheating the public at large and spoiling the future of students.

The petitioner stated that she applied for admission in MBBS to Jinnah Medical College, Peshawar, which claimed that the college had been affiliated with the University of Peshawar through a notification No 4123/ACD dated Aug 23, 2003, whereas the recognition had been approved by the PMDC which would grant the recognition in the year 2003-04.

She stated that accordingly a sum of Rs 249,000 was deposited by the petitioner on account of tuition, admission and PMDC registration fee. She added that she completed her studies and passed her first year MBBS Part I examination. She stated that the college’s administration directed her to pay fee for MBBS 2nd year and on inquiry the administration disclosed that still the recognition and affiliation of the institution had not been made by the PMDC and would be granted soon.

The petitioner claimed that she approached authorities of PMDC which declared that the application for affiliation and recognition had not been filed properly till date. On this disclosure the petitioner went and got admission in Women Medical College, Abbottabad, and the college subsequently approached the University of Peshawar for her admission in 2nd year class of the 1st Professional MBBS in the college which was allowed on the the condition that the student would have to register herself with the PMDC.

The petitioner claimed that when she approached the PMDC but she was stunned to note that PMDC refused to register her in the 2nd year class on the ground that the Jinnah Medical College was neither recognised nor affiliated with the PMDC, therefore the petitioner had to register herself in 1st year MBBS class and could not be allowed registration as student of 2nd year MBBS class.

The petitioner contended that she got admission on the assumption that the said medical college had been affiliated with the university and would be granted recognition during academic year 2003-04. She requested the court to direct the university for withdrawing affiliation so as to save precious time of other students. She also requested that she may also be granted registration in 2nd year MBBS by the PMDC.
