KARACHI: Tax inspectors empowered to collect tax

KARACHI, Oct 1: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has decided to entrust its tax inspectors with powers of tax collection for the convenience of industrial, commercial, government and semi-government organizations.

The bulk consumers can now pay their water taxes through pay orders or cross cheques and these would be collected by the concerned tax collectors.

This would not only save the time of consumers but also save them from the trouble of depositing their amounts in banks.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the MD Water Board, Brig Iftikhar Haider. It was attended by Deputy Managing Director Suleman Chandio, XENs Meter Division and other officials.

Brig Iftikhar observed that since bulk consumers faced problems while depositing their water tax in banks, it was, therefore decided to delegate powers of tax collectors to tax inspectors for their convenience.

He directed that water meters installed on the premises of a building should be installed outside to check their tampering.

The MD KWSB said, under the new procedure, bulk consumers could now pay their bills for September but only through pay orders or cross cheques.—APP
