NEW YORK, Sept 30: A US federal grand jury on Thursday returned a new indictment with additional charges against two Muslims who had been managing a mosque in Albany, New York.
Mohammed Hossain and Yassin Aref were arrested last year during an anti-terror sting operation. They were charged with conspiring to support terrorists.
Prosecutors claimed that the two agreed to take part in a money-laundering scheme connected to purchase of a shoulder-fired missile.
The new indictment include allegations that the pair attempted to provide support to Jaish-e-Mohammed, an Islamic fundamentalist group based in Pakistan that is on the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations.
Mr Aref, 35, is the Imam and Mr Hossain, 50, is the founde of As-Salam mosque in Albany. Both were enlarged on $250,000 bond shortly after their arrest in August 2004.
