ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: Brig. Arif Mahmud Siddiqui whose tenure as the director general of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) was to expire on Friday, has been told “verbally” to continue working till further orders.

Arif, who took over the job in September 2003, sounded unhappy over the uncertainty and told Dawn that he had not received any written intimation from relevant quarters.

“I was told by the additional secretary of the ministry to continue till further orders, I could be in office for another two years or two days.”

Federal Minister for Sports Muhammad Ajmal Khan said that a final decision would be made by the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. “Since he is not in the country at the moment, therefore the matter will be decided only when he comes back.”

Ajmal would not say if a new man was being brought in to take over the hot seat.
