PCB hopes Shabbir will be cleared
LAHORE, Sept 30: Lanky medium-pacer Shabbir Ahmed stands a good chance of playing in the forthcoming home series against England, according to preliminary report of the biomechanics experts received from Western University of Australia.
Talking to journalists on Friday Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) director cricket operations, Salim Altaf, disclosed that the board had received a preliminary report from the University of Western Australia on Friday which revealed Shabbir was in good position to continue bowling.
The ICC has set parameters within which a bowler can bend his arm up to 15 degrees whereas Shabbir was reported in the first Test against the West Indies in May last for having up to 27 degree bent.
Shabbir left for Sydney on Sept 25 and went through a series of tests on Thursday at the University of Western Australia.
Salim informed that according to tests conducted on Shabbir’s action, the fast bowler’s bent was within the tolerance level of the ICC.
However, Salim said that it was a preliminary report and the final position would be cleared after the University sends detailed results to the ICC, next week.
“Once the ICC receives the report, it will decide its next course of action.”
On the basis of final report, the ICC can clear Shabbir or send him before their bowling review committee for final verdict.
