Sarbjeet refiles review petitions

LAHORE, Sept 30: Advocate Rana Abdul Hameed on Friday refiled three review petitions with the Supreme Court registry here on behalf of Indian spy Manjeet Singh, alias Sarbjeet Singh, after removing the objection.

The apex court’s office returned on Thursday the petitions giving the convict in bomb blast cases five days to refile them after removing the objection.

One of the documents placed on record was an old petition moved with the Supreme Court through which the spy, held responsible for exploding bombs in Lahore, Faisalabad and Kasur, had pointed out to the lacunae which, according to the petitioner, were contained in the prosecution charges which were incompatible with his statement before the magistrate. Sarbjeet Singh has, through the petitions, requested the apex court to review its earlier decision of upholding his death sentence in the bomb blasts at outside Lohari Gate, in a public bus in Ghaziabad and in the market within the premises of the Kotwali police of Faisalabad in 1990. The SC has already rejected his similar review petition in the bomb blasts taking place at the fruit market near Ik Moria Pul, outside Yakki Gate, Lahore, during the same period.
