KARACHI: Notice issued to EC

Published October 1, 2005

KARACHI, Sept 30: Sindh High Court on Friday issued notice to the election commission authorities for October 3 on a petition filed by some candidates seeking shifting of a polling station from Surjani Town to Murad Memon Goth in Karachi.

Petitioners Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, contesting the slot of Gadap Town nazim, and 14 other candidates taking part in the third phase of the local body election, have maintained that the Government Girls High School, Surjani Town, where the polling station had been set up, was unsafe for the purpose.

They have pointed out in the petition that in the 2001 election, this polling station had been established at the Government College, Murad Goth. They have prayed to the court to order shifting of the polling station to any place other than the selected one.

The SHC division bench comprised Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M. Memon.—PPI
