KARACHI: Karachi city Spelling Bee contest concludes

KARACHI, Sept 29: The Karachi city competition of the second “Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee” championship concluded on Thursday with three more students qualifying for the finals.

A total of nine students from Karachi will now contest in the finals to be held in Lahore on October 2. Among the winners, coming from three different age groups constituted for the qualifying rounds held here for three days, seven are girls, said a coordinator of the contest.

The winners of Thursday contest are: Areeb Ahmed of the St. Patrick’s High School (Age group 9-11), Kanza Zulfiqar of the Bahria College, Karachi (Age group 12-14) and S. Yumna Sarwar (Age group 15-17). The pronouncers and judges of the competition at Karachi, who belonged to the British Council, were Pronouncers Marcus Gilbert, Sue Gilbert, Noorjehan Mecklai, Ruth Bavington and Pamela Taylor; and Judges Wali Zahid, Fauzia Shamim, Sana Naveed, Ambreena Qazi, Nabeel Alvi, Adil Abbas, Farida Ibad, Sidra Iqbal, Naheed Mallik, Nazish Ghouri, Raheela Fatima and Sameena Khan.
