Railway track blown up

By M.H. Khan and Aziz Malik

HYDERABAD, Sept 28: A bomb blew up a one-foot portion of railway track near the Kotri railway station on Wednesday night. The bomb planted on the track exploded when a labourer who was crossing the line steped on it. He suffered injuries in a leg.

Railway traffic between Karachi and Hyderabad on both up and down and track was suspended at 7.50pm soon after the blast.

The injured labourer was going to the nearby Dargah Garho Goth to attend an Urs beginning on Thursday. He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Hyderabad.

Officials of a bomb disposal squad did not find anything near the place of blast and were not sure about the make of the bomb.

“The Karachi-bound Shah Latif Express was to pass through the place at around 7.45pm after it had arrived at the station at 7.40pm. But it was halted at the Kotri railway station,” said a railway police official. Another train, Shah Rukn-e-Alam, was halted at the Hyderabad railway station.

Late on Wednesday night, an organization calling itself “National Liberation Movement” claimed responsibility for the blast.
