SRINAGAR, Sept 27: Indian soldiers have shot dead seven militants in three separate incidents in occupied Kashmir, the army said on Tuesday. “Three of the militants were killed during a night-long fierce gunbattle in the town of Shopian,” army spokesman Vijay Batra said.

Mr Batra said a soldier was injured in the fighting. “The area is still under cordon and a search operation is on there,” he said. In another incident, three rebels were killed on Tuesday at the Line of Control (LoC), Mr Batra said.

The incident happened at Machial, northwest of Srinagar, he added.

“One more militant was killed in a brief encounter with the army in Srinagar’s Bemina locality early on Tuesday,” Mr Batra said.—AFP
