KARACHI, Sept 27: Girl students from different schools dominated the first day of the Karachi-round competitions, organized for the second time under title: “Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee” championship, by winning top positions in three different age categories on Tuesday.

A coordinator of the national contest said that 25 three-member teams participated in the competition in each category. The first two rounds were held on team basis, following which ‘sudden death’ round was held.

In the sudden death round, members of every selected team compete against each other. There were six teams each in the categories of 9-11 and 12-14 age groups.

Three students emerging successful on the first day, along with the would-be winners of the competitions to be held in the next two days, will take part in the national finals of the spelling contest. The finals will be held in Lahore on October 2.

Winners of Tuesday’s event are: Aqsa Gill of the Army Public School – Faisal (Age group 9-11); Sundus Iftikhar of the Springfield School (Age group 12-14); and Durr-e-Fatima of the Little Folks School - North Nazimabad (Age group 15-17).
