10 devotees die in accidents

By A Correspondent

MULTAN, Sept 26: At least 10 devotees coming from Sehwan, two of them children and five women, were killed and over 30 others injured near the Shah Rukn-i-Alam shrine in two identical accidents on Monday.

The shrine is situated on a mound called Qasim Bagh. The drivers of two buses carrying the devotees lost control of the vehicles on the slope and they hit nearby buildings.

In the morning, a bus from Sehwan to Dad Fatyana village near Chichawatni stopped at the shrine as the passengers wanted to pay homage to the saint. As it left the shrine an hour later, it ran into a college building as the driver, who had earlier driven for over 12 hours, lost control of the bus at a turning. The bus overturned after crashing into a wall.

Sardaran Bibi, Maryam, Sahiba, Saba, Satta Bibi and six-year-old Zaman died and 11 other were injured.

In the evening, a similar accident involving a Bahawalnagar-bound bus left four people, including three members of a family, dead and 25 injured. The victims were: Ahmad Bux, his brother Ramzan, son Saeed, and Shamoon. The injured were admitted to the Nishtar Hospital.
