Khan shines for AAA

KARACHI, Sept 26: A belligerent knock of 62 by Khan Muhammad enabled the touring Afghanistan Aria Academy (AAA) cricket team to notch up an exciting one-wicket victory over Customs Cricket Academy (CAA) in a 12-a-side match at National Stadium on Monday.

CCA, who chose to bat first, were bowled out for 221 in 48.3 overs with leg-spinner Naveed Kakar grabbing three for 25 in 10 overs.

Aria Academy, in reply, secured victory in 49 overs with Khan Muhammad striking an undefeated 62 off 43 balls with the aid of five fours and four sixes after the visitors were reeling at 195 for 10 in the 41st over.

Anwar Ali, a schoolboy, showed a lot of promise for CCA. After top-scoring with 52 off 60 balls with four fours, the youngster snapped up four for 59 in 10 overs of hostile pace bowling.

Earlier on Sunday, Aria Academy defeated AOCC by 28 runs in a day/night game due to a fine all-round show by Muhammad Nabi.

The Kabul all-rounder slammed 58 and grabbed three for 11 to take the Man-of-the-Match award.

Summarised scores:

CUSTOMS ACADEMY 221 in 48.3 overs (Anwar Ali 52, Hafiz Asad Baig 44, Fawwad Alam 40, Yasir Hussain 33; Naveed Kakar 3-25, Muhammad Nabi 2-37, Khaliqdad Noori 2-42); ARIA ACADEMY 222-10 in 49 overs (Khan Muhammad 62 not out, Muhammad Nabi 40, Badsha Hussain 33, Khaliqdad Noori 24; Anwar Ali 4-59, Fawwad Alam 2-28, Yasir Hussain 2-29).—APP
