PESHAWAR, Sep 26: The additional district and sessions judge, Fakhr Zaman Khan, on Monday convicted Majid Khan of killing a union council nazim and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000.

The court also sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs25,000 on account of injuring three persons in the same incident.

The presiding officer also issued perpetual arrest warrants for two absconding accused, Shoukat and Khalid.

The court pronounced that the prosecution had proved the case against the accused who had killed Malik Humayun Khan, nazim of Landhi Arbab union council

The prosecution claimed that both the parties had previous blood feud. On the day of occurrence on Apr 19, 2003, the deceased was going to attend a marriage ceremony.

Near Gulberg area the accused-persons started firing at them which resulted in the death of Humayun and injuries to three others namely Aftab, Naveed and Tahir.

The FIR of the case was registered by one of the injured persons, Aftab, who was said to be a cousin of the deceased.

Advocate Shahnawaz Khan appeared for the complainant and argued that the accused was arrested red-handed from the spot.

He contended that the evidence on the record proved the involvement of the accused in carrying out the offence.
