PESHAWAR, Sept 26: Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar Wali Khan has claimed that his party’s election alliance with the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) is based on their commitment to the basic rights of people.

Speaking at a reception held at the residence of Zafarullah Khan at Sirki Matiara, Charsadda, on Monday, he said the ANP and JI would work together to steer Charsadda out of crisis. “We have launched a joint struggle from the platforms of the Al-Khidmat and the Watan Dost groups to serve the people, but the people wanted to the NAB and RAB are frightened of our alliance”. The reception was held in honour of newly-elected nazims, naib nazims and councillors.

According to an ANP press release, he advised the elected representatives to listen to the call of their conscience and reject the corrupt and opportunists.

Mr Khan regretted that those who were wanted to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Regional Accountability Bureau (RAB) were part of the government.

He advised the newly-elected councillors to elect genuine politicians, nominated by the ANP and JI.

The ANP-JI candidate for the post of district nazim, Al-Haaj Mohammad Hashim Khan, nominee for the post of tehsil nazim Khalid Mehmood and JI Charsadda chief, Pir Masood Jan, were also present on the occasion.

A separate reception was held in honour of newly-elected body of union council Kangra.
