VC lays stress on discipline

PESHAWAR, Sept 26:Vice-Chancellor Imtiaz Hussain Gilani the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has urged students to concentrate on their studies so that they may play their part in development of the country.

He was addressing the ‘Orientation Day’ function held for newcomers of session 2005-06 here on Monday. The vice-chancellor congratulated the students for joining the university and wished them success.

He said that with HEC’s support, the university was bringing about positive changes in its technical and teaching facilities by improving the standards of education.

He said that higher education was the driving force to take the country to a prestigious path of development, while engineering and technology would help it to attain sustainable development.

The vice-chancellor urged students to observe discipline and follow rules of the university. He said that the administration would not allow any student group to create disturbance and play with the career of students.

He said that the administration would take strict action against miscreants.

Regarding semester system, he said that the university was successfully running the system which had been made compulsory for students to complete their credit hours based on theory and laboratory work.

He said almost all universities of the developed countries had adopted the system and therefore to keep the standard of education at par with the international system of education, UET had taken this initiative to replace annual system with the semester system.

Director undergraduate studies Dr Waqar Ali Syed informed that UET had handed over a complete “Academic Calendar” and course outline of each semester to students through which they would know about complete academic plan.

He further said that 700 students had joined the university this year.
