DADU, Sept 26: The Sindh chief minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, has said that remodelling of the Dadu Canal will be started soon and the desilting programme will be launched in the Johi Canal to overcome shortage of water.

He said complete share of water would be provided to the tail-end growers and action would be taken against water thieves.

He was addressing a public gathering at the irrigation rest house in Johi town on Sunday.

On that occasion, Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi, MPA Dr Manzoor Ahmed Laghari and MPA Ahsan Ali Jatoi were also present.

The chief minister said that mismanagement in the distribution of irrigation water would be ended and steps would be taken for providing water to all growers according to their rights.

He said that the federal minister for water and power was providing full share of water to the Sindh province but there was mismanagement in the distribution of water in the province which would be improved soon and he would pay attention to the irrigation department after the third phase of local body elections.

He said embankments of the Dadu Canal would be cemented to avoid theft of water.

He said that he had received complaints against the officials of the On Farm Water Management that they were not lining watercourses in Johi taluka and Dadu. He directed the officials of the water management to pay attention towards backward areas of Johi taluka and Dadu and line watercourses.

Talking about Asia’s biggest sweet water lake – Manchhar —, he said that the Sindh government has drained out dirty and saltish water from the lake and provided sweet water to the Manchhar Lake which would be used for drinking and agriculture purpose. He said that this was the best achievement of the Sindh government.

Talking about former nazims and the province, he said that former district nazims, taluka nazims and union councils’ nazims had not served the people at their doorstep so they were not elected again. He said that the people should elect KPP nazims in Sindh who would provide best service to them. He said that he was not running the chief minister ship by sitting at the Chief Minister’s House, he was visited every nook and corner of the province.

Gorakh Hill: About the Gorakh Hill station, he said that the Gorakh Hill station was the best tourism point. He said that after development of the Gorakh Hill station, tourists would come there and people would get jobs. He said that now road to the Gorakh Hill station was 75 per cent completed and people can reach at this place.

He announced that remaining work of the Gorakh Hill station road would be completed within 2 to 3 months. He said that the Sindh government would establish a summer camp and officers would provide information to tourists.

He said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would inaugurate the construction work of the Nai Gaj Dam in March 2006.

He said the federal government is providing the financial assistance to the Nai Gaj Dam. He said that the Sindh government would contribute in the construction work of the Nai Gaj Dam.

He said that a 60 kilometres long road would be constructed from Johi to Chhinni and three big bridges would be constructed on different places of Kachho so that the people of this belt should not face any difficulty during the flood season.

He said that the Government Girls High School, Johi, would be upgraded to the girls’ degree college.

He announced the construction of roads for Ibrahim Laghari and Faiz Mohammad Laghari villages of Johi taluka. He also announced Rs100,000 each grant for Dadu and Johi press clubs.

Earlier, he visited the Gorakh Hill station where he received briefing from the DCO of Dadu, Aijaz Ahmed Mangi who is also the project director of the Gorakh Hill Station Development Authority.

Earlier, talking to police officials and the district administration of Jamshoro during his visit to Rani Kot, the chief minister has announced that a road will be constructed from the historic Rani Kot to the Gorakh Hill station.

He said that police will be deployed along the Indus Highway in Sindh, especially from Jamshoro to Sehwan, to regulate the traffic system.

He announced that a museum, a library and a rest house would be constructed at the Rani Kot Fort to provide facilities to tourists. He said that the Rani Kot Fort would be repaired on same old pattern.

He announced that the Deh Rani Kot Fort would be removed in the record of Thana Bula Khan and it would be included in Manjhand taluka.

The chief minister Sindh received briefing from the DIGP of Hyderabad about accidents on the Indus Highway at Sann and Khanote.

The DIGP told the chief minister that the accident occurred due to the negligence of drivers.

Later the chief minister directed the health department officials to provide proper treatment to people injured in accidents.
