LAHORE, Sept 26: Robbers on Monday killed a university student in one of over 14 strikes in the city. Four dacoits stormed into the house of Khurshid Ahmad in Al-Faisal Town, North Cantonment. When his wife raised an alarm, his two sons, Shahzad and Talat, tried to overpower the intruders. But they stabbed the woman and her two sons and escaped.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where Shahzad, 23, a university student, died. The condition of the other two was stated to be critical.

Two armed men held up Malik Asad in Islampura and took away cash and a cell phone worth Rs12,000.

Two other robbers held hostage Mrs Irfan in Sabzazar and deprived her of cash and gold worth Rs55,000. Mrs Shamim was robbed of cash and jewellery worth Rs40,000 by two gunmen in Jauhar Town.

Four armed men entered the house of Ilyas in the Factory Area and made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth Rs350,000.

Four dacoits took away cash and valuables worth Rs100,000 from the house of Asad Mahmood in the Factory Area. Three armed men forced their entry into the house of Jalil in Hanjarwal and made off with cash and gold worth Rs200,000.

Mrs Majid was deprived of cash and jewellery worth thousands of rupees in Garden Town.

A car was snatched from Gulshan-i-Iqbal and another from Township. Three cars were stolen from Ichhra, Gulberg and Sarwar Road, while two motorcycles were lifted from Sabzazar and Garden Town.

Meanwhile, Punjab IGP Ziaul Hasan has expressed concern over the murder of Brig Tayyab Saeed (retired) by two dacoits outside his Cavalry Ground house on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Monday, the IGP directed city police chief DIG Tariq Saleem and both SSPs (operations and investigation) to nab the culprits at the earliest. He also ordered them to submit him a daily report of the case.

The former army officer was buried in a local graveyard.

FOUND MURDERED: An unidentified man, about 30, was found murdered in Kahna on Monday.

The police said the man had injuries around his neck. His body was sent to the mortuary.

ACCIDENT: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents.

Iftikhar, 33, was killed and his three family members injured when their car fell into a drain in Kot Lakhpat.

The injured were taken to a hospital. An unidentified man, about 35, was killed when a bus hit him in Kahna.

His body was also removed to the mortuary.
