KARACHI, Sept 26: Of the 5,645 candidates who took admission test for different programmes at the NED University of Engineering and Technology on Sunday, 4,904 were declared successful. The overall pass percentage remained 86.87.
Talking to Dawn, the chairman of admission committee of the varsity, Dr Mahmood K Pathan, who is also the dean of Science, Technology and Humanities faculty, said that those who had cleared the entry test were now eligible to apply for admissions to different programmes at the varsity. The admission process is likely to begin in the first week of October with the sale of admission forms and prospectus through a bank on the campus, he added.
According to him, it was for the first time that students having passed their HSC examination from board with the pre-medical group were allowed to appear in the test so that they could apply for admissions to bio-medical engineering department of the university, which would be launched formally in the ensuing academic year.
In all there are 32 seats each in the two new five-year degree programmes, i.e. medical engineering and bioengineering programmes, which would run under the Bio-medical Engineering Department. Eight seats each at the two departments have been reserved for students with HSC pre-medical group, while the remaining 24 seats each at the two departments would go to the HSC pre-engineering students, said Dr Pathan.
A total of 4,571 candidates with pre-engineering group and another 1,074 with pre-medical group appeared in the entry test. Two different papers were given to the students of the two groups in the test. The pass percentage of the pre-engineering group students remained 83.94 while 99.34 in case of the pre-medical candidates, he added.
In the meantime, the admission policy for the new academic year is being placed before the university syndicate on Sept 28, following which a detailed schedule of admission would be given, said a source on the campus.
