KARACHI: Consumers’ rights awareness stressed


KARACHI, Sept 26: Ombudsman Sindh Yousuf Jamal said on Monday that if only 50 per cent, out of 2,417 councillors in Sindh, would have awareness about quality products and services, they can create a positive change in society.

Addressing a roundtable discussion for “Creating Awareness to Demand Quality Products and Services”, he said we need educated persons who know the basic social problems and also ways and means about how to solve them.

He charged that the government machinery was not doing well and there was a large gap in Pakistan, especially in Karachi, between law and its implementation.

He said the basic problem is to protect rights of consumers, which were being violated by open marketing of counterfeit products by fake companies.

“The rights will be protected if a consumer knows his rights,” the Ombudsman said.

Yousuf Jamal urged the law enforcement agencies, government authorities and consumers to make joint efforts to create awareness about quality products and services.—PPI
