KARACHI: Scholar’s death condoled

KARACHI, Sept 26: Literary and research organizations and political parties have expressed deep sorrow over the death of noted intellectual Dr Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Author of 90 well-researched books, Dr Khan died on Sunday in Hyderabad after a long illness. He was 93.

The Anjuman Taraqui-i-Urdu held a condolence meeting at the office of the honourary deputy secretary on Monday. It was noted at the meeting that Dr Khan was considered a teachers’ teacher.

“A large number of students profited immensely from his knowledge and wisdom. The second half of the 20th century saw his works,” he said.

The president of the Anjuman, Aftab Ahmad Khan, said literature and knowledge had received a bitter blow by the Dr Khan’s death.

The secretary of the Anjuman, Jamiluddin Aali, termed Dr Khan’s death such a loss of learning that it would not be repaired anytime soon.

The Urdu Lughat Board also held a condolence meeting on Monday at which president Dr Farman Fatehpuri shed light on the intellectual, literary and religious services of Dr Khan. He termed the death of someone as learned as Dr Khan a great loss of Urdu language and literature.

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association and the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology held a joint condolence meeting on Monday.

At the meeting, presided over by Z.A. Nizami, deep sorrow was expressed at the sad demise of Dr Khan. The condolence meeting was attended by Mohammad Zakir Ali Khan, honorary secretary-general of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, Prof Dr Saiyid Nazir Ahmad, vice chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, and a large number of teaching and non-teaching staff.

Jamia Ehteshamia, Jacob Lines, also held a condolence meeting on Monday. The Jamia’s administrator said a large number of people had benefited from the personality of Dr Khan. He said Dr Khan was like a guide to people. He said that in addition to learning, Dr Khan enjoyed a prominent position in the world of shariat and tariqat.
