LAHORE, Sept 25: Mohammad Munir (PTCL) fired an explosive card of seven-under-par-65 to win the Rachna Open golf championship stunning the first two day’s leader Shabbir Iqbal by three strokes at the Gujranwala Club course on Sunday.
Munir started the third day with a deficit of seven strokes to Shabbir. But he was in terrific form and had not only eliminated the difference by the end of the first nine holes but was leading by one stroke.
On the first nine, Munir had five birdies at the 2,5,6,7,9 while Shabbir himself supported Munir by losing three strokes on the first nine, with a double bogey at the first and a bogey at the third.
Munir managed to increase the lead by scoring three more birdies at the 12,16 and 18th while only a bogey at the 15th to make aggregate 205 to lift the title.
Shabbir finished the day with a poor card of three-over-75 making three day aggregate 208.
Muhammad Nazir (Rawalpindi) remained third with aggregate 214.
Zulifqar Ali was the winner of the amateurs’ gross event beating Fakhar Imam on the basis of producing best card on the final day after tiding at 148 each in the two-day event.
Zulifqar entered a card of 72 on Sunday as against of 76 of Fakhar.
