Optimist crown for Waleed

KARACHI, Sept 25: Promising sailor Waleed Tobeh retained his crown when he won the boys’ title in the 15th National Optimist sailing championship which concluded at the PAF Yacht Club on Sunday. Waleed accumulated 10 pp (penalty points) in a series of seven races with one discard allowed.

Hussain Patel, runner-up of the last edition, again had to be content with second slot with 14 pp while Sabahatullah Babar was placed third with 16 pp.

Ujala Mir Masood regained the girls’ crown when she toppled defending champion and her sister Ghazal.

The former secured 24 pp whereas the latter earned 25 pp. The third position went to Maria Sahar with 62 pp.

Ghazal earned some consolation when she bagged the juniors’ title with a tally of 25 pp. Talha Nadeem and M. Mustafa Ahmed were placed second and third with 43 pp and 54 pp.

The juniors’ event was restricted to sailors born in 1993 or after.
