KHAIRPUR, Sept 25: Awam Dost Panel candidate for district nazim Nafisa Shah has said that she has the support of majority of councillors of the district, despite harassment of councillors and registration of false cases against them. Speaking at different villages of the Gambat taluka on Sunday, she said councillors were harassed through registration of two false cases against Munawar Wassan.

She alleged that candidates of government-backed parties, acting on instructions of a provincial minister, had been using police, revenue officials and other government machinery to confiscate councillors’ identity cards.

She expressed dissatisfaction over arrangements made in connection with the third phase of elections scheduled to be held on October 6.

She said despite all this the ADP would give a tough time to the opponents.

She alleged that the government was forcing the business community to join the PML-F in the district.

She said police, revenue department and other government officials were busy in working for the PML-F backed candidates.

PROTEST: A large number of farmers of Imam Shakh and other water channels of Sobhodero taluka continued protest on the sixth consecutive day on Sunday against shortage of irrigation water.

The farmers from different villages reached Imam Shakh bridge on tractors, staged protest sit-in and blocked Saghiyoon road for two hours and burnt tyres.

They also observed a hunger strike.

They raised slogan against irrigation officials.

Speaking on the occasion, protesting farmers alleged that irrigation officials were creating artificial shortage of water since more than one year.

Later, former district nazim Khairpur Nafisa Shah, PPP

MNA Syed Fazal Shah, JSQM leader, Faqir Imdad Mangi and STP leader Jamal Khuhro visited the hunger strike camp and assured their full support in resolving their problems.
