Accidents leave five dead, 21 injured

SAHIWAL, Sept 25: Five people were killed and 21 others sustained injuries, five of them serious, in three different road accidents here on Sunday. A tractor-trolley (FDA-4019), carrying a marriage party to Akbar village from Chak 414/GD, overturned when one of its wheels left the road and fell into a ditch. As a result, Noorul Huda and Mst Sarran died instantly while 17 others suffered injuries. They were rushed to hospital where the condition of bridegroom Altaf, his father Qadir Bukhsh, cousins Samran and Nooran was said to be serious.

On Sahiwal-Arifwala Road near Dilluwala bridge, a speeding car (BNA-7427) overturned which resulted in the instant death of former councillor Haji and his sister Kaneezan. While three others received injuries, and among them the condition of Fayyaz (4) was described as serious. The family belonged to Fort Abbas.

A truck (P-1144) hit a bicyclist on the GT Road near Yousafwala. Consequently, labourer Muhammad Yar died on the spot while his son Qamar Abbas sustained injuries. He was shifted to hospital.

Police registered separate cases against the absconding drivers.

CASE: Chichawatni police on Sunday registered a fraud case against a woman and her two accomplices.

Safia Bibi owned 50 kanals of agricultural land in Chak 158/12-L. Her daughter Rashidan along with her two accomplices Aslam and Rashid Ahmed sold this land on a fake transfer deed in the name of Muhammad Aslam. On the report of Safia Bibi, police registered a fraud case against Rashidan, her two accomplices and stamp vendor Abdul Jabbar.

So far, no arrest has been made in this connection.
