KARACHI: Anti-polio drive in Orangi

Published September 26, 2005

KARACHI, Sept 25: The Caretaker of Orangi Town, Qamar Shaikh, has called on all quarters of society to play their role in providing a healthy environment to children. In a press release on Sunday, the town’s caretaker said in a meeting held to review arrangements of a polio eradication campaign that parents should administer their children, up to five years of age, anti-polio drops. The campaign starts from Sept 27 to 29.

He said the government was utilizing all its resources in this regard.

Representative of the WHO, city government officers of the health and education departments, newly elected nazims, naib nazims, councillors and area notables attended the meeting.

The WHO Representative, Dr Madhat, said they were trying their best to eradicate polio and save children from the crippling disease but their efforts were fruitless without the cooperation of parents and the masses.

“Our staff is performing its best to get desired results and eradicate polio. It was reaching each and every corner of Orangi Town to administer polio drops to children up to five years of age but we need cooperation of the masses to complete our mission of a ‘Polio Free Pakistan’,” he told the meeting participants.—PPI
