LAHORE, Sept 24: Three-year-old bay colt, Ghoray Wah, who registered a facile victory on his last outing, should not let his connections down when the 4th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday. Contesting in the sixth and last race of the card in a field of ten probable runners, Ghoray Wah should win the sprinting distance race to make it two in-a-row. Owned by Junaid Rashid Rana, Ghoray Wah will be ridden by his regular partner in the saddle, champion jockey Shahid Rehman, who is not showing his usual spark these days.
After winning the race Ghoray Wah was promoted to next class.
However, there are contenders like Legend, Zardan and Dazzy Gold, who can give him tough competition before bowing out in the Minchin Abad Plate, a class IV division III handicap race.
The feature event, the Muhammad Tughlaq Cup, a class V division I handicap race to be gone over 1200 metres has a dozen contenders barring last-minute withdrawals.
This looks an open affair with at least four of them on chance on their recent show and performance.
They are: Manu Janu, Green Street, Native Force and Love Moon. It should be a close contest between them all.
This will be the fourth race of the day.
Four-year-old bay filly, Putra’s Lady, who is knocking at the door of victory for a couple of her last outings, seems poised to win this time in a relatively weak company in the fifth event, Minching Abad Plate, class IV division I and II combined handicap race.
Putra’s Lady’s previous outing was very disappointing for her breeder, Malik Hamid Ali Noon, who thought she would sail over the field. Now she has only to beat Aya Chandiwala, Lucky Mayla and Achilles.
The last named filly, Achilles, who has been demoted in the revised handicapping of the race, ran nowhere in the class IV division I handicap race in her previous outing but on classification is a better bred animal.
The first race to be gone over 1000m has ten runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawal. Four of them are on chance, namely, Dogar’s Gift, Morning Star, Easy Come Easy Go and Beautiful Bee. They should fight it out.
The second race has a big field of seventeen runners, if they all make it.
This looks a match between the two, Fair Boy and My Love. But there are two other, who have the ability to compete with them. They are Thinkable and First Passion.
But the way My Love is showing a consistent performance, this four-year-old filly should have the better of others to make amends for his defeat last Sunday.
A card of six events will be gone through on Sunday. Four races will be run over 1200m while the first two will be contested over 1000 metres.
Three of the races will be decided in the floodlights.
The first race will be held at 4pm.
