Ashar, Asif may play in 2nd ODI

LAHORE, Sept 24: Opener Ashar Zaidi and medium-pacer Mohammad Asif are likely to make the Pakistan ‘A’ team for the second one-dayer against Australia ‘A’ at the Qadhafi Stadium on Sunday. The home team are trailing 1-0 in the three-match series after losing the opener at the same stadium on Friday by seven wickets.

Ashar is an upcoming left-handed opener and the selectors, who are anxious for a reliable opening pair for the home series against England, are eager to try the youngster as Salman Butt’s partner.

Both Imran and Salman failed in the opening match in which Pakistan were dismissed for a meagre 96.

Asif, meanwhile, is likely to replace Rao Iftikhar.

Pakistan ‘A’ skipper Misbahul Haq is a doubtful starter because of stomach disorder.

Both teams had nets at the Qadhafi Stadium on Saturday.
