ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Friday the government was giving priority to development projects in Fata, with all out efforts for the provision of basic necessities of life to its people. The prime minister was talking to a group of Senators belonging to FATA and headed by Mohammad Ajmal Khan, Minister for Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.
The Senators discussed with Mr Aziz matters pertaining to development projects in Fata.
Mr Aziz said that the government desired that all parts of the country were provided with education, healthcare and security.
He said a record number of development projects were being implemented in the country, including a broad based development programme in Fata.
The programme included schemes of healthcare, education, roads, clean drinking water and electricity, he added.
He said during the last few years, there had been a continuous increase in the allocation of funds for development of the tribal areas as the government wanted to improve the standard of living there.
The Senators appreciated government interest in developing Fata and expressed the hope that the government would allocate more funds for speedy development of the area.
Those who met the prime minister included Senators Rashid Ahmad Khan, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Syed Sajjad Hussain and Tahir Iqbal.
PML CHIEF: The head of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday at his National Assembly chamber and discussed with him the legislative agenda and the proceedings of the Senate.
Mr Aziz was accompanied by the party’s secretary general, Senator Mushahid Hussain, and Iqbal Dar, its additional secretary general.
Chaudhry Shujaat presented to Mr Aziz a book on his late father Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi.
The prime minister said that Chaudhry Zahoor was a veteran Muslim Leaguer and a staunch democrat, who believed in the politics of principle.
Mr Aziz said Chaudhry Zahoor had made great sacrifices for the cause of democracy.
He expressed confidence that Chaudhry Shujaat would continue to carry forward the mission and legacy of Chaudhry Zahoor and uphold the values and traditions he set. —APP
