KARACHI, Sept 23: The Sindh High Court on Friday disposed of a petition filed by a woman against harassment after assurance by the state counsel that she would not be harassed again in future.
Ms Amna, a resident of Gulshan-i-Faisal, Bath Island area Karachi, alleged that Mohammad Younus, additional secretary of chief minister, on the directives of his associates was misusing his official authority and harassing her and her family members with regard to a monetary dispute.
The petitioner submitted that she had made a transaction of $121,700 with one Altaf Hussain, also cited as respondent, against a payment of Rs7.1 million, and there was no outstanding amount between the parties.
But, she stated that the respondents with the intention of extorting money from her were visiting her house and harassing her to pay them more money.
She said the secretary to CM, misusing his official authority, called her and her family members to visit the CM House. They also threatened her to book them in false cases, she said, adding that while he (the respondent) was not authorized to conduct an inquiry into a dispute of civil nature.
When the matter was taken up, the allegation of the petitioner was denied by the respondents, and they assured that no harassment would be caused to petitioner in the future.
The SHC’s division bench comprising Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, after assurance by the state counsel, disposed of the petition.
NOTICES ISSUED: Notices were issued to respondent office-bearers of the PIB Cooperative Society by a division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon on Friday.
The bench after perusing application and other relevant material issued notices to the respondents for Sept 29 on an application filed by an administrator appointed by the government for the Society.
The administrator moved the application stating that he had made all arrangements for holding elections on Sept 25 as ordered by the SHC, but had received a number of complaints and applications, which warranted a complete scrutiny of the entire record.
TIME GRANTED: The provincial law officer on Friday sought time to file comments on a petition against shifting of a drug baron from Karachi jail to Sanghar jail.
Taj Mohammad submitted that his cousin Haji Lal Mohammad (70), an under-trial prisoner, who was imprisoned in Karachi central jail and facing trial of as many as five criminal cases, was shifted to Sanghar prison by jail authorities under the influence of a rival party so that his cases pending in Karachi could not be disposed of.
The Additional Advocate General, Sarwar Khan, requested the court to grant time to file comments on behalf of the respondents.
The SHC’s division bench comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, granting request, adjourned the hearing till Oct 3.—PPI/APP
