KARACHI: Power supply situation reviewed

KARACHI, Sept 23: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi on Friday reviewed the city’s power supply situation and directed KESC engineers to overcome procedural bottlenecks for speedy implementation of system improvement schemes to provide uninterrupted electricity.

Mr Jatoi arrived here from Islamabad on Friday afternoon and chaired a meeting at his Bahadurabad Camp Office to take stock of the pace at which various power supply improvement schemes were being implemented.

KESC Managing Director Brig Tariq Saddozai and other senior engineers of grid and transmission attended the meeting.

The minister emphasized that regular power supply was a genuine need of power consumers and described speedy implementation of power supply schemes an urgent requirement for which the KESC must perform beyond the call of duty. Speed however, would not mean compromising on the quality of work, he added.

KESC MD Brig Saddozai and senior engineers of the power utility made a detailed presentation regarding stable power supply and informed that 40MVA new power transformers had already been added to the overloaded grids, while more transformers were in the process of being attached to the existing grids. Besides, 12 new grid stations are being constructed, of which 3 would be ready by June 2006 while the remaining grids would be ready for supplying electricity by June 2007.—APP
